Palm&Clay – Artisan for a day

Our history explorer, La Saberuda, loves this break because it brings together different things including: using local materials like clay and palm leaves to create things to use in the home and on the land, passing on an age-old tradition from generation to generation, from grandmother to grand-daughter, from father to son, with all the creativity and hard work of local artisans.

Like this, at least for a weekend, you can experiment with these materials and make your own creations under the guidance of an artisan. And whether you’re all adults or families with kids, it’s no problem as we have different versions of the activities.

ITINERARY
A trip to immerse yourself in local pottery and palm weaving traditions. Get ready to use your hands and give free rein to your creativity!

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN MIRAVET.
Arrival in Miravet, stay at Els Canterers or El Balcó del Miravet country holiday accommodation.

DAY 2: PALM-WEAVING TRADITION AT THE FOOT OF THE CARDÓ HILLS.
Start the day in Rasquera with a palm-weaving workshop, using fibre extracted from local fan palms, the only native European palm. During this activity you can try the a pastisset, a traditional cake made locally. After finishing your creation in the workshop, in the afternoon you can enjoy a visit to the castle of Miravet or try the wines of the Pedrola winery.

DAY 3: POTTERY ART IN MIRAVET.
Today you’re a potter! Depending on availability and the type of group, you can visit one of the local artisans to take part in a pottery workshop. You’ll have the chance to create your own work of art and decorate it to take home with you.
