Here Garnatxeta and Morrades, our highly professional wine and food explorers, will have more fun than ever helping you to savour the region through its wine and olive oil producers. And they won’t just show you La Ribera d’Ebre, but take you beyond it to the Terra Alta, Priorat and Garrigues areas to show you the wealth of top-quality produce that comes from such a small region.
Every day you’ll discover a different experience, spending three days exploring the wineries in La Ribera and three more in neighbouring areas. Altogether you’ll taste wines from five different denominations and olive oils from three, making you a real expert on the gastronomy of southern Catalonia.
Get ready to enrich body and mind with the immense variety of aromas and flavours of La Ribera and the areas around it.
ITINERARY
Blood & Gold will indulge your gourmet side, diving deep into the food, wine and olive oil not just of La Ribera, but also of neighbouring areas. An endless wealth of aromas concentrated in a small region.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT LA RIBERA D’EBRE – MÓRA
Arrival at Móra d’Ebre. Accommodation in Hotel La Creu / 7 de Ribera.
DAY 2: AROMAS OF THE SOUTH.
On this first full day, immerse yourself in the aromas of the wines, olive oil and even cava(!) of the DO Tarragona wine region produced at the foot of the Cardó hills. In the afternoon, get ready to stimulate your senses even more with extra virgin olive oil and wine produced beside the river Ebre.
DAY 3: AROMAS OF THE ILERCAVONI.
Today we’re going to discover the mini wine region in the south-east of La Ribera, bordering on the Priorat, with wineries included in the DO Montsant denomination. In this region, inhabited in ancient times by the Ilercavoni, family-run wineries produce a wide range of wines based on local grape varieties. Get ready to discover the least-known corner of the DO Montsant wine region, a place with spectacular views.
DAY 4: AROMAS OF THE TERRA ALTA.
The Terra Alta awaits you. Here you can enjoy wines in which the white garnatxa (grenache) grape variety plays a starring role. In fact, this area accounts for a third of all the white grenache vineyards in the world! You can try it at the so-called cathedral of wine in Gandesa, a building with highly distinctive but eminently practical architecture, where vermouth is also made. After a lunch of local produce, get ready for an experience blending history and wine in Corbera d’Ebre.
DAY 5: AROMAS OF THE PRIORAT.
You may well have heard of the small wine region of the Priorat, today internationally famous. Well, today you can savour it for yourself, as you visit another cathedral of wine and a family-run winery steeped in the long history of wine in the Priorat.
DAY 6: AROMAS OF LES GARRIGUES.
In the morning you will visit the facilities of the Clos Pons winery and taste some of their fabulous wines. After the visit, you will go to Pobla de Cèrvoles, where Ariadana waits for you. She prepares a fantastic picnic in the middle of the olives trees and show you the differences of the varieties. You will have the opportunity to taste the olive oils and appreciate their flavors..
DAY 7: AROMAS OF THE NORTH.
We propose you end this wine and food tour in the north of La Ribera, the least-known part of the county but also a place where high-quality wine and olive oil are produced. You can taste a sample of these beside the river while getting to know the people who make them. The best way to end this journey to the roots of our wine and olive oil, and of our fine food.
DAY 8: DEPARTURE.
Return home.
